Bravewood Guitars
Vintage replica guitars

Due to the enormous interest in vintage guitars, prices in recent years have risen to incredible levels. This in turn means only a handful of collectors can now afford to own these classic instruments.
One of the biggest attractions of vintage guitars (other than investment) is the beautifully played in feel that well used examples possess, new guitars just do not have this character and it's not surprising that many players are looking for an alternative...

I have a passion for Fender® vintage guitars from the '50's and early '60's, the instruments were well ahead of their time, good quality, functional and they just had a certain magic about them that is sadly lacking in today's guitars. Even the top dollar custom replicas offered are still factory produced conveyor belt guitars that lack soul and any real attention to detail.
The idea behind Bravewood Guitars is to offer instruments that are made as closely as possible to the originals, using the same methods and techniques and the same materials (where possible). This philosophy has so far led me on an interesting journey. I have studied many vintage instruments (thanks to all my friends who have let me paw their vintage guitars!!!), books and videos/DVD's on the subject, magazine articles, internet sites.....in fact anything to do with vintage guitars...in doing so I have amassed quite a knowledge on the subject and I put that to good use when building my guitars. When I say building guitars...I do mean building guitars, I'm not simply content to make do with off the shelf bodies and necks as most others in this field do, I make my own (click here to see a '50's style P type bass constructed from scratch), in addition I also make many of the parts used on the guitars, from string guides to pickguards, etc.

I offer a range instruments based on vintage classics (click here to view details and pricing). Finished in nitro-cellulose and to exacting detail, these guitars are about as close as you can get without paying for the real thing. They can be distressed to accurately replicate a used vintage instrument, from a few dents and scratches to full blown 'gigged every night for 50 years' wear and tear.

Please note, I do not offer a refinishing, ageing or 'relicing' service for existing guitars and parts.
